Takayuki Kida (Tak for short) was born in Japan in 1957. He originally studied engineering before transitioning to wood working in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto. He then moved to Takamatsu Japan to work at George Nakashima’s furniture company. Additionally he studied traditional Japanese lacquering, Urushi, an exceptionally difficult and rare craft.

In 1993 Tak moved to Boulder, CO and started his own business. He mainly works with private clients but his commissioned work can be found at: The Denver Botanical Garden, Colorado Springs Air Force Academy, and Naropa University.

Currently, apart from his business, Tak teaches Japanese wood working part-time at Red Rock Community College and is a member of Kazuro-Kai USA.

Statement:

Following the focus of making beautiful objects for everyday life, Tak creates contemporary Japanese furniture utilizing traditional techniques.
