SUMMARY:Raku Pottery Class- 8 weeks every Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting and fun Summer Raku class\nContemporary Raku is a modification and continuation of a 400-year-old Japanese pottery practice of making ware for the Tea Ceremony. Today we practice Raku firing for the opportunity to make and fire one piece at a time using post-firing reduction and controlling the glaze surface\, as well as the making of the piece on a potter’s wheel or using hand-building techniques. \nUsing low-fire clay and glazes\, the pieces are placed in a pre-heated kiln using tongs\, fired to 1800 degrees\, and removed from the kiln with tongs while still glowing hot. They are then placed in a container of combustible materials. When the combustible material begins to burn\, the container is closed\, creating a “reducing” atmosphere that changes the color of glazes and the clay body\, making each piece unique. In this instance\, the potter is able to work one-on-one with a single piece they have created and influence the surface of the piece using post-firing reduction \n \n8-Week Pottery Class – Every Thursday\n📍 Location\nEast Side Art Institute\n10500 Isabelle Rd\nLafayette\, CO 80026 \n🕕 Schedule\nThursday Evenings | 6:00–8:00 PM \nClass Dates\n\nSeptember 24\nOctober 1\nOctober 8\nOctober 15\nOctober 22\nOctober 29\nNovember 5\nNovember 12\n\n💲 Tuition\n$200 for the full 8-week session \nJoin us for eight creative evenings of hands-on pottery instruction in a welcoming studio environment.
