4 Thursdays: July 7, 14, 21, 28; 6:30 – 9:00 PM
This firing class is an opportunity to control the atmosphere and reduction that will affect the surface of a piece in a specific way for just one pot at a time. No glaze is used but Terra Sigalatta (a type of clay slip) can be put on the piece and polished before it is placed in a saggar (or can). A variety of combustible materials is then placed around the piece in the saggar. Firing the saggars in a kiln gives the piece a one of a kind surface.
Location: ESAI Campus; Fee: $150.00 Includes 25 lbs. clay, instruction, slips and both bisque and saggar firings.
Instructors: Nancy Utterback and Kathy Griffin
